Our Story
Quarry Hill Vineyard was established in 2005 in partnership with Quarry Hill Orchard, owned by the Gammie Family. The original tasting room was located in the Orchard Market Barn, but that space was quickly outgrown. Construction began for a production facility and tasting room on the picturesque pinnacle of the property in 2010. Well known for our estate grown grapes and fruit wine, Quarry Hill’s vantage point and distant Lake Erie views make it the perfect combination of delicious wine and beautiful atmosphere. Quarry Hill Winery of Berlin Heights, Ohio is part of the “Lake Erie Shores & Islands Wine Trail” offering a wide variety of European Vinifera varieties suitable to the micro-climate here. Our winery offers a comfortable and scenic environment for visitors to enjoy the wines grown and carefully crafted as the perfect extension of the Gammie family vision.
Our Vision
Over the last three years the Gammie Family has been working with our former Quarry Hill Winery partner and founder, Mac McLelland, towards an acquisition that would be a win-win for everyone. It was good timing for both families, the Gammie’s ready to accept full ownership and the McLelland family considering re-locating to Georgia to be closer to Mac’s family. The agreement was finalized in December of 2021. Mac made the transition very easy for everyone, and we are forever grateful for everything he's done. We are excited about increasing our collaboration between the Winery and the Orchard now that both businesses are under Gammie Family Management. In doing so, we're putting effort into positioning the Winery for increased special events, live music, expanded fruit wine and food offerings; however maintaining the status-quo and becoming educated about the Wine Business remain our focus for the immediate future. We look forward to our future growth and welcoming loyal and new customers!
Our Team
During late harvest of 2021, our first priority was to put new team members in place in anticipation of the transition. We are grateful to have Emily Specht, Tasting Room General Manager, and Ben Langan, Winemaker. Emily is a Cleveland native who earned a Business Marketing and Communications degree at The University of Mount Union. Her previous experience in corporate marketing and event planning make her a perfect fit as the Tasting Room Manager and Event Specialist. Emily is naturally enthusiastic, friendly and easy to talk to. Ben Langan is a local from Huron whose passion for wine came from his study abroad experience traveling through Europe. He is a graduate from Kent State with a dual major in Business and Enology. He brings practical field experience to the venture, thanks to his internship in Geneva. Ben L. has a strong passion for expanding our fruit wine using Quarry Hill Orchards fruits.
